Creating Tomorrow’s Engineers with Department of Business Innovation and Skills

Successfully increasing young peoples interest in engineering

The Department of Business Innovation and Skills created Tomorrow’s Engineers Week to change outdated perceptions of engineering among young people, particularly girls, and to demonstrate the relevance of engineering to young people’s everyday lives. The team, headed up by Patrick Peal, successfully increased the number of young people interested in engineering careers by 6 percentage points with 26% of 11-14 yr olds hearing about engineering careers via on and off-line coverage.
